Mouse populations remain a significant challenge for grain growers across Australia, affecting crop yields and profitability. Effective mouse management requires the precise and efficient application of bait in broadacre cropping, with the best results achieved when combined with integrated pest management strategies. Mouse outbreaks often coincide with favourable seasonal conditions. Poorly applied bait can leave populations unmanaged, which compounds and increases crop losses. To address this, the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) invested in research to identify common challenges in baiting practices and test solutions using a thorough evaluation process. This report brings together the latest research and practical recommendations on bait spreading and machinery performance to help growers improve mouse control strategies. By Ben White, Mark Saunders and Josh Giumelli.
