The research team completed a week-long test of 4WD farm utes with 7 models being put over black-top, unsealed and 4WD tracks, evaluating vehicles for performance, comfort, serviceability, fuel economy and features.
Buying a new ute is a pretty difficult task these days with the choice on offer to farmers. Do you stick with the tried and tested model you have always bought before, which is getting long in the tooth, or do you look to one of the newer vehicles offering greater levels of comfort and features? It is not an easy choice as the difference between most of the utes evaluated in this report has never been closer. While some models are still very similar to those tested in our 2007 ute evaluation, the likes of the Mazda BT-50, Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok have really shaken up the market.
